Project description:
We plan to analyze time series of lidar pro?les to investigate the morphology, the evolution and dynamical characteristics of the Arctic Planetary Boundary Layer (PBL) using aerosols as tracers of motion. Lidar data can provide the temporal evolution of the vertical distribution of aerosols, from the ground up to an altitude of 3 km, with a vertical resolution of 3.75 m and a temporal resolution of 1 s, and will be acquired for about one hour, during summer/winter days and nights. From time series recorded at different altitudes, we plan to produce vertical pro?les of variance, skewness, kurtosis of the signal ?uctuations. Power spectra, autocorrelations and structure functions on these time series will also be computed, for altitudes within and outside the PBL, at diurnal and nocturnal conditions, to assess the turbulence characteristic of the Arctic PBL.
National/International Cooperation:
The project is in the framework of the CCT-IP activity.rnThe past deployment was carried out in the framework of a collaboration with the Alfred Wegener Institute, which we would like to continue.
