Project description:
The primary objective of this project is to bring together national and international scientists to develop existing and create new collaborations to reinforce cooperation within the Terrestrial Ecosystem Flagship in Ny-Ålesund through two workshops and one network meeting. rnThe secondary objectives are to (i) plan and organize the development of a research project building on the already established exclosures and other permanent monitoring stations in the Ny-Ålesund area. rnThe past activities of the flagship highlighted key knowledge gaps currently existing in terrestrial research in and around Ny-Ålesund. This new proposal aims at building on the network and collaboration already established within the Terrestrial Ecosystem Flagship group at Ny-Ålesund and progress from literature review to multi-party and multi-disciplinary collaborative research projects in the field. rnThe second meeting will take place in Ny-Ålesund during the summer of 2022. Here we aim for a network meeting, and discussions and plans will be finalized with the objectives, and participation in a small pilot project encouraged. Experimental approaches and field protocols will be tested and evaluated. The network meeting will be organised in Ny-Ålesund, taking advantage of established herbivore exclosures and other established terrestrial ecosystem monitoring and manipulation sites to enable achievement of the planned pilot study.rn
