Photochemistry in Arctic Surface Snow (PASS)
IADC_id: 257
active
Call year: 2023
Subject area:
RIS - Project:
Principal investigator:
Project description:
PASS project will focus on the photochemical processes that can occur in surface snow, with particular attention on persistent organic pollutants (POPs),bisphenols. This work will provide important information about photo-induce reaction. Studies of the photodegradation of organic compounds in snow is in its infancy, and most works so far are focused on understanding the photochemical phenomenon, and then investigating the role of the species involved in photo-oxidation (photosensitisers, ROS...). It is also known that inorganic oxides such as TiO2 and Fe2O3 present within the snowpack, could act as photocatalysts, but currently their catalytic capacity is only known in aqueous solution.
