Project description:
The Post-Oligocene Strike-slip Tectonics at Svalbard (POST) project is aimed to identity the tectonics associated to the activity of the nearby De Geer Transform Fault affecting Northern Atlantic and the Arctic Sea in Svalbard. Several strike-slip faults have been identified and referred in literature as the transfer faults associated to the Oligocene Thrust Event. Field evidence and analyses of satellite images revealed that the strike-slip faulting affects the area around Kongsfjord involves also recent structures and morphology. The project combines the satellite data (lineaments) with structural data collected by measure stations.rnThe field activity 2016 is intended to complete the structural analyses where evidences of neotectonics have been identified during the previous campaigns. This will allow to complete the fieldwork of the project. Moreover the analysis of the brittle deformation in fault zones will be analyzed in various rock types including carbonates, marls, sandstone, shale of various ages (Middle Proterozoic, Vendian, Devonian, Permo-Carboniferous, Triassic, Cenozoic.rnResults will be presented at International meetings and specific articles will be prepared.rn
