Overall Objective: HIBERNATE aims at elucidating the relationships between water masses and bacterial communities in the Kongsfjorden (as a case study for Arctic fjords). The activities are linked to the International Kongsfjorden Year (IKY, conducted between summer 2024 and summer 2025), a research initiative developed within the Kongsfjorden System Flagship at Ny-Ålesund to collect year-round, high-resolution, multidisciplinary data on core parameters of the marine ecosystem in Kongsfjorden.
