CARMA will realise methodological and technological advancements that will allow the participant groups to perform 14C measurements on the carbonaceous fractions of the Arctic aerosol, as these are very important for source identification and apportionment. Indeed, 14C measurements have been shortlisted among the required methodologies in the 2021 Report on short-lived climate forcers (SLCFs) of the Arctic Monitoring and Assessment Programme (AMAP); nevertheless, this information is still very limited because of the scarce quantities of aerosols in the area and technologiual/methodological limitations.
