Project description:
While continuing our current measurement on site, with necessary instrument maintenance, we will, for the first time in the Arctic, acquire ammonia data in synergy with the bird breading season, hotspot for its emission. We aim to build upon our previous research by not only continuing to measure SA, MSA, IA and HOM, systematically assess the composition and distribution of freshy nucleated charged clusters and, but will introduce the latest technology to measure ammonia concentrations in the Arctic environment. This comprehensive campaign aims to assess the mechanism of new particle formation with online concentration measurements of all the key precursor gases, particularly ammonia, for the first time in the Arctic. Concretely, this will be achieved through: (1) Performing direct measurements of gaseous ammonia, from polar sunrise to sunset, covering the active bird breeding season. (2) Continuing our long-term measurement of the atmospheric composition with both gas-phase & particle phase characterization with quantification of the particle / ion size distribution, quantification of precursor vapors such as SA, MSA, IA, (HOM) and chemical characterization of ion cluster compositions.
